Something Isn’t Right: Recognizing the Patient Before They Crash is a virtual yet interactive three-hour EMS continuing education course designed to strengthen patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills. Through discussion of airway challenges, medical scenarios, vital-sign trends, and group activities, participants will learn to recognize early warning signs of patient deterioration. The first hour focuses on identifying respiratory failure, troubleshooting airway complications, and improving ventilation techniques. The remaining two hours emphasize recognizing critically ill medical patients, identifying red flags, interpreting assessment findings, and determining appropriate interventions. Participants will develop stronger critical-thinking skills to recognize subtle changes, look beyond initial complaints, and intervene before a patient becomes critical.
Core topic hours earned will be 2.0 Medical and 1.0 Airway.
This class is offered as a partnership with Dubuque County EMS Association.
