This program begins with a comprehensive core track that teaches Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction safety principles, Silica Safety and American Heart Association CPR/First Aid. Then in a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience, students will be introduced to basic construction concepts and technical skills that may include rough framing, concrete, insulation, building codes and permits, and finish carpentry. Once the core track is complete, students will have the opportunity demonstrate these skills during the lab portion of the program, which takes place at a job site for approximately 46 hours. Students may have an opportunity to earn money during the lab portion of the program subject to the approval of NICC and Four Mounds. Upon completing this program, individuals will be prepared for entry-level work in building construction or pursue additional construction trades education.
