The Nurse Aide State Skills Exam is the hands-on portion of the CNA State Exam process. The skills exam is designed to be a realistic nurse aide assignment and you will have 45 minutes to complete the scenario of personal cares and skills you have been assigned to demonstrate. A score of 70% or greater is required to be successful and to be eligible for the Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry. Registry placement in Iowa, also requires a 70% or greater on the CNA State Knowledge Exam.  Both tests are required and taken separately.
Registration must include SSN
Students must bring a watch with a second hand for testing
Students must bring a valid photo ID to testing
Scrubs are no required, but testers are evaluated on professional appearance

Notice

Please read:  This skills competency exam is completed by 1:1 evaluation, at the Town Clock Center in downtown Dubuque. Students should arrive 15 minutes prior to testing time. Students need to bring a current photo ID, such as a driver's license, student photo ID, or passport as well as recite their full social security number. Students should be prepared for hand-on demonstrations, wearing professional attire/scrubs (including a watch with a second hand). Testing times are subject to change . Any changes will be communicated between NICC and the student. Testing end times will vary based on evaluator to student ratio.
