On Their Own & Okay builds skills in youth grades 3-5. Youth will develop self-care skills to make good decisions while staying home alone, how to act in an emergency, how to handle boredom without technology, how to be self-sufficient, and make healthy, nutritious snacks.
Objectives: Youth will self-report the ability to prepare a healthy snack, youth will self-report they feel safe when home alone, youth will self-report they know the location of emergency contact, numbers, flashlights, first aid kits, etc. in their home, youth will self-report they pay attention to their screen time.
With adequate education from parents, teachers and community partners, young people can develop confidence in the skills they need for staying home alone safely.
