This State of Iowa approved class is the first step toward a career helping others in healthcare settings. It prepares students for employment as a nurse aide and may be a prerequisite for admission into nursing programs. The fast-paced combination of classroom, hands-on lab and clinical experience addresses basic nursing and personal care skills, patient rights and communication. Special attention to mental, physical and social health of geriatric and special populations is included. Iowa mandates a background check to include criminal, adult/child abuse and sex offender status prior to the first day of class. Health requirements include current negative tuberculosis (TB) test(s), Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines.

Notice

Please read:  MANDATORY ORIENTATION: Tuesday, June 9th at 12:00 PM at NICC, Calmar Campus (Max Clark Hall, Rm 100). BOOKS: Included in the class fees and provided at mandatory orientation. ATTENDANCE: Per state regulations, students must attend 75 total hours (not including scheduled breaks) in order to receive a certificate of completion. Instructors will not make-up time with students if a student is absent. COMPLIANCE: Students must complete a background check (provided at mandatory orientation) and submit required paperwork for Clinical: TB Testing, Flu vaccine (during flu season) and COVID-19 Vaccine (or declination waiver).
