This State of Iowa approved class is the first step toward a career helping others in healthcare settings. It prepares students for employment as a nurse aide and may be a prerequisite for admission into nursing programs. The fast-paced combination of online classroom, hands-on lab and off-site clinical experience addresses basic nursing and personal care skills, patient rights and communication. Special attention to mental, physical and social health of geriatric and special populations is included. Iowa mandates a background check to include criminal, adult/child abuse and sex offender status prior to clinical experience.

Notice

Please read:  MANDATORY ORIENTATION: Monday, June 1st, 2026, 12:00-1:30 PM at NICC Calmar Campus (Max Clark Hall, Room 100). BOOKS: Included in the class fees and provided at orientation ATTENDANCE: Per state regulations, students must attend 75 total hours (not including scheduled breaks) in order to receive a certificate of completion. Instructors will not make-up time with students if a student is absent. COMPLIANCE: Students will complete a background check release at Mandatory Orientation (students must know or bring full SSN on this day). Students are required to submit Baseline TB Tests (2-Step), Flu vaccine (during flu season) and COVID-19 (recent booster) or declination waiver in order to attend Clinical. For questions prior to Mandatory Orientation, please contact Compliance Coordinator by calling 844-642-2338, ext. 2346. CLINICAL: Students are eligible to attend Clinical by passing the background check, completing compliance requirements and successfully passing Lab. Students will be required to wear navy blue scrubs and watch with a second hand as part of their uniform (the cost and gathering these items is the responsibility of the student). COMPLETION: Proof of completion certificate will be provided for successful completion. Students must achieve a 78% GPA or higher and 100% attendance of 75-hours of training in Lecture, Lab and Clinical. If a student is unsuccessful or does not formally withdraw or cancel from the class, the final grade given will be an F and no certificate is awarded. REFUND: Students may receive a refund if they cancel from the class 5 business days before Mandatory Orientation.
