This course is designed to prepare the licensed practical nurse to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy in a licensed hospital, licensed skilled nursing facility and a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit, as identified in 655 IAC 6.5(3). Major emphasis is placed on the specialized skills needed to provide intravenous therapy related to the expanded scope of the licensed practical nurse for clients who are age 12 or older and weighing 80 pounds or more. To be eligible to enroll in the course, the licensed practical nurse must hold a current unrestricted Iowa license to practice as a licensed practical nurse and documentation of 1040 hours of practice as a licensed practical nurse; be employed in a licensed hospital, a licensed skilled nursing facility or a certified end-stage renal dialysis unit whose policies allow the licensed practical nurse to perform procedures related to the expanded scope of intravenous therapy.
