This 132-hour course prepares the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) student to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services, roles and responsibilities of EMT’s, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting, and providing patient transportation. Students who successfully complete this class will be eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for their EMT certification examination. Prior to the first class, a MANDATORY orientation will be scheduled.

Please read:  • Must have a current CPR card from one of the following agencies, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross CPR for Health Care Providers. The card must be provided to the instructor prior to the first class. This certification must be valid for the duration of the course. • Must be 17 years of age by the first day of class. • Must have health insurance during the time period that they are in this class • You must attend the MANDATORY orientation meeting to attend the class. NOT INCLUDED IN TUITION • Textbooks are required and are not included. The textbooks typically cost about $225.00. • $30.00 payable to the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services for processing your certification application (following successful course completion). • Approximately $100.00 for student uniforms to be worn during class, labs, clinical and field experiences.
