This independent study course allows for certification of any or all of the following skills:
Take Final Impressions: Creates an exact, stable negative replica of the prepared tooth structure and its margins
Take Occlusal Registration: Records the exact relationship between the maxillary (upper) and mandibular (lower) teeth so the laboratory technician can align the models correctly.
Fabricate Provisional Restorations: Provisional (temporary) restorations protect the prepared pulp, maintain the tooth's position, restore function, and keep the gums healthy while the final lab restoration is being made.
Remove Gingival Retraction: Deflect the gum tissue away from the prepared tooth margins, providing a dry, visible field for an accurate impression.

Please read:  To enroll in this Section 3 Expanded Functions course, you must meet at least one of the following critieria: Be a graduate of an ADA-accredited dental assistant program; hold a current DANB Certification; OR have at least three months of clinical practice as a registered dental assistant; OR have at least three months of clinical practice as a dental assistant in a state that does not require registration. This course is entirely self-study, giving you the flexibility to complete assigned readings. evaluation measures, and clinical skills on your own schedule. All components must be finished within one year of your registration date. Hands-on clinical skills must be performed at your place of employment.  Both the learner and the employer/supervising dentist must co-sign the competency verification forms upcon successful completion of the tasks. A comprehensive post-test is required at the end of the course. You must achieve a score of 75% or higher on the post-test to pass and earn your CEUs.
