Fabrication, Temporary Cementation, Recementation, and Removal of Provisional Restorations~
This instructional unit provides the participant with the basic knowledge, principles, and preparation to fabricate and remove provisional restorations. 

At the compliation of this expanded function, the participant will be able to: (1) Identify and replicate anatomical characterstics of the tooth shape and alignment that protects the periodontium and preserve the integrity of the dentition. (2) Recongize normal occlusal relationships and maximum intercuspation. (3) Communicate the rational and requirements for fabricating and placing a provisional restoration. (4) Use various methods to fabricate single-unit and multi-unit provisional restorations. (5) Adjust and finish provisional restoration to provide normal occlusal relationship and maximum plaque resistance. (6) Temporarily cement provisional restorations as applicable. (7) Provide home care instructions for the provisional coverage. (8) Remove provisional restorations.

Notice

Please read:  To be eligible, participants must  comply with 1 (one) of the following:
(1) Hold an Active dental hygiene license in Iowa; or
(2) Hold an active dental assistant registration, AND comply with at least one of the following: (a) Be a graduate of an accredited school; or (b) Be currently certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB); or (c) Have at least three months of clinical practice as a registered dental assistant; or (d) Have at least three months of clinical practice as a dental assistant in a state that does not require registration.

Minimum number of total hours:
Didactic hours: 4
Lab hours: 4-5 patient experiences. 
Clinical/Patient: 10 patient experiences in the dental office under observational supervision.
Continuing Education Units: 14 (4 hrs. didactic, 10 hrs. laboratory and clinical)
