Driver Education is designed to help novice drivers develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become safe, low-risk, responsible drivers. To satisfy the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, students must attend and successfully complete 30 hours of classroom instruction.

Notice

Please read:  Please view the information at https://iowadot.gov/mvd/driverseducation/parent-taught Seats are limited. An orientation will be held through ZOOM. Connection information will be provided one week prior. Students need to possess their driver’s permit before the first class. Students will be required to complete the online coursework within the listed timeframe. A textbook will be provided for the course and can be picked up from the NICC Peosta campus or Calmar campus at no charge one week prior to the class start date or mailed to you with shipping/handling fees applied at checkout. The textbook will need to be returned to NICC, attention Transportation, either by mail or drop off, in satisfactory condition after the course is completed. Final course completion certificates will be on hold until the textbook is returned. Brightspace, Learning Management System, will be utilized for the course. Log-in information will be emailed within one week prior to the start date. The email address in the student account needs to be accessible to the student. Please call 844-642-2338, ext. 1399 if you need to update the email address for this account. Device Requirements Any computer, mobile device or tablet that is capable of running the latest version of the Supported Browsers (Newest versions of Google Chrome or Firefox, and Microsoft Edge are the supported browsers. Internet Explorer is no longer supported.) can navigate the Brightspace platform. A fast internet connection is encouraged for best results. If your course has a Zoom component, your device also needs a functioning webcam and microphone. After you have completed the registration process, please notify the Accessibility Services Office at 844.642.2338 ext.1258 (Calmar) or 2280 (Peosta) of any academic, medical or physical accommodations necessary for the student during this course.
